A “picopause” is a little loving nudge towards simplicity and serenity.

Find a comfy chair, set a timer for 10 minutes, and just sit there.

I have been doing this consistently for more than four years now. Every day. And for 30 minutes. I highly recommend it.

You would think that sitting still for a certain amount of time every day would be unproductive. If you have never done this consistently, you are in for a surprise after a couple of days. My 30 minutes of quiet time every day is where my brain SLOWS DOWN enough for me to have some really great (creative, innovative, reasonable, inspirational, oblique) ideas. And they seem to come to me without any effort. I would be willing to say that this habit alone has made me several percentage points more productive than I was before. And without actually DOING anything!

    Again, highly recommended.

Don’t overthink it. Just sit. Do nothing.

I don’t have enough thumbs to put up. I need to use my toes.👣

  • Recommending Jerry Springer

    Yeah, you read that right.

I mentioned in my post yesterday that I am listening to all of the This American Life podcast episodes from when it started back in 1995.

Well, this one from 2004 really surprised me.

It’s about Jerry Springer, the infamous talk show host of one of the worst talk shows (in my opinion) in the history of that genre.

My opinion about him was completely changed by listening to this podcast.

If you had an extra hour today, how would you spend it if you had to use it for self-care?

Hmm, that’s a tricky one for me. Does kanji study count as self-care? Probably not, right? I might just take a nap, but that seems wasteful if it’s a whole hour that I didn’t have in the first place. Does reading a book on my new couch count? Or does it have to be more like, “get a massage”? I don’t really like massages that much. I think I might be bad at self-care…
