  • Dieu est grand, je suis toute petite

(English Title: God Is Great, I’m Not)

I can’t make too many comments about this movie because I watched it in Japan. This means that I listened to it in French and read the Japanese subtitles. And I was sleepy at the time, so my interpretation can’t be trusted 100%. Anyway, I thought it was a cute movie. The actress who played Amelie (Audrey Tautou) in the movie of the same name plays the lead in this one too. She has a very expressive face and is interesting to watch, no matter what she is doing, so I enjoyed the movie from that level alone. I would recommend watching it after you see Amelie, as you will probably fall in love with Tautou and forgive this movie its weaknesses in consequence. (****)

  • FairyTale: A True Story

It’s a bit hard to figure out exactly what this movie is trying to be. Is it trying to be a kid’s movie or a cleverly disguised adult’s movie? The basic idea of the story is that two girls find fairies in the woods near their home and set out to prove their existence to one of the girls’ parents. They believe that knowing about the fairies will help the mother get out of the funk she has been in since her son died. It’s a cute little movie and certainly worth watching if you have an afternoon to spare, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say that you should run out and rent it right away. (***)

  • Planet of the Apes

(This reviews refers to the 2001 remake)

The makeup was incredible, but the storyline was not really that interesting or clever. The best thing I can say about it is that it didn’t completely suck. I have to write more or else the alignment of the pictures on this page will be off. But I really can’t say anything else. Mark Wahlberg is cute, I’ll give him that. I wonder what ever happened to his brother Donny, who used to be one of the “New Kids on Block”. There, have I written enough now to take up space for the picture? (**)
